Our mission

Catch scam calls while they happen, and bring the family in before the money leaves, always with the senior's permission and in their language.

Try it in 3 steps

  1. Watch a scam get detected

Open the live demo and press Play. Each line is sent to NVIDIA Nemotron during the call, and the risk score updates in real time.

  2. Play the role of the scammer

Open Test it for your 4 digit code, then call (570) 532-5081 and try to fool it. Scam Shield warns you during the call.

  3. Read the code

Everything is open source on GitHub, with 335 automated tests.

Why we built it

Scam Shield started with a family story. Years ago, a grandmother in our family answered a call from a man selling insurance. He was courteous, patient and convincing.

By the time the call ended, part of the retirement savings she had spent her life building was gone.

The authorities intervened, and the family was fortunate. But the stress of those days stayed with all of us. She wasn't careless. She was trusting, and that trust is exactly what phone scammers exploit.

Scam Shield is the protection we wish she had had: a service that listens only with the senior's permission, recognizes scam tactics while the call is still happening, and brings the family in before any money is lost.

How we use NVIDIA Nemotron, Tavily and Twilio

NVIDIA Nemotron on Nebius Token Factory

Every new sentence of the call goes to Nemotron 3.5 Lightning through Token Factory's OpenAI compatible API. We chose the faster model deliberately: a warning is only useful if it arrives during the call.

Nemotron returns a risk score from 0 to 100, a verdict, the reasons (gift cards, secrecy, urgency, a fake grandchild), who the caller claims to be, and the family's alert, written in the family's own language.

Tavily, live web search

When Nemotron says a call looks risky, Tavily runs two searches while the call is still in progress: has this number been reported as a scam? and what scams match what the caller just said? We build that second search from Nemotron's own reasons.

The family sees the real sources on the dashboard. Calls that appear safe skip the news search to conserve resources.

Twilio, the phone line

The senior first gives consent by pressing 1 on our call. Then they can add Scam Shield to a call in 2 taps (Add call, then Merge).

Twilio's real time transcription sends us the words, and a conference bridge lets the family join the call with a single tap.

Built to be trusted

FastAPI on Render, Supabase authentication and 335 automated tests. We never record calls or store transcripts. Demo mode provides a scripted call that anyone can run without a real phone.
