Q&A
Scam call protection: your questions, answered.
Answers to the questions families ask most often.
What is Scam Shield?
Scam Shield monitors your loved one's phone calls for scam tactics, with their consent. If a call appears to be a scam, we call you immediately so you can step in while there's still time.
Does my loved one have to agree?
Yes. When you sign someone up, we call them on their own phone. They press 1 to approve or 2 to decline. Nothing is monitored until they say yes.
How do they turn it off?
They can call the Scam Shield number from their own phone and press 2. You can also pause or remove protection from your dashboard.
Do you record the calls?
No. We never record or store call audio. We analyze the words during the call to check for scams, and then discard them.
What happens when a call looks like a scam?
NVIDIA Nemotron scores each call from 0 to 100. When the score reaches 70, we call you in your language, explain our concern, and you can press 1 to join the call.
Do they keep their phone number?
Yes. Their calls are forwarded to Scam Shield, which rings an app on their cell phone, or their home phone through a small adapter.
Does it work with a landline?
Yes. A landline requires a small phone adapter, about $40. A cell phone requires no additional equipment.
What languages does it speak?
English and Spanish. Use the language switch at the top of any page.
Can it be wrong?
Yes. AI can miss a scam or flag a legitimate call. Always call your family member back on a number you know. Scam Shield is not an emergency service: if someone is in danger, call 911.
How can I try it?
Watch the live demo, or use Test it to call our number and play the role of the scammer. No account is required.
Does it work anywhere in the US?
Yes. It works with US phone numbers in every state, on a cell phone or a home landline.
